Waters of Crete

Crete, although being the largest of the Greek islands, has an area of merely 3,219 square miles, which is slightly larger than Delaware and Rhode Island combined. It is so small that the sea is always within a short distance. The cities are along the coast where port is a necessity.

克里特島雖然是希臘最大的島嶼，不過總面積只有八千三百多平方公里，也就是台灣的四分之一大。由於很小，所以海洋總是不遠，島上的大城也都沿著海岸，港口也就是不可或缺的了。

Heraklion is the capital of Crete. The building far out is a Venetian fort.
伊拉克里翁是克里特島的首府，照片遠方的建築是歷史上威尼斯共和國的堡壘。

Agios Nikolaos is a cute little touristy town. The first picture is taken near the port. The second picture is Lake Voulismeni.
聖尼可拉斯是一座可愛的觀光小城。第一張照片是在港口附近照的，第二張照片是城內的一座湖。

Siteia is close by the site we're excavating. I had a chance to take a 40-minute boat ride to a tiny island outside Siteia. The first picture is taken from the port, and the second from the boat.
錫蒂亞就在我們考古挖掘地點的旁邊。我這次有機會從這裡的港口坐船到四十分鐘外的一個小島。第一張照片是從港口照的，第二張照片是從船上照的。

Ierapetra is the southern most city of, not only Greece, but the entire Europe. It is the closest city to where our study center is. I don't have a good picture of Ierapetra from this year, so I'm recycling a picture from last year.
耶拉派特拉不僅是希臘最南邊的城市，也是全歐洲最南邊的城市。這是最靠近我們的研究中心的城市。今年我沒有在這裡照到好照片，所以將就一下重複使用去年的照片。
